You Spend One-Third Of Your Day Watching TV

by Greg Bussmann on September 24, 2009

If you are reading this from America, you do. A new study purports to show us why we are so much stupider and fatter than the rest of the world. It says, in a tone I detect as condescending, that we Americans watch twice as much TV as anyone else in the world, to the tune of 8 hours a day. 8 hours a day?! That’s it? To me, all this means is that is our programming and channel selection are twice as good as the rest of the world. And I bet if it weren’t for video games, (and some of you productive types) this number would be far higher.

Nevertheless, do you know anyone that actually watches TV for 8 hours a day? Me neither, but if McDonald’s delivered, I probably would.

Really? I watch maybe 2. But if you add in internet time, I'm in big trouble. So who's watching my other 6 hours a day?
  • I am. I watch at least 14 hours a day.

Don't you ever go to work? If you watch TV for 14 hours and sleep at least 8 hours... that leaves 2 hours a day for you to be productive or to at least move.
  • Yes, it does not make a lot of sense if you think about it.

But sadly, it's probably more true than not.
