U2 360 Kicks Off Or Why I Love The Internet

07/02/2009

An ode to the wonders of the internet:

U2 kicked off their new world tour on June 30, in Barcelona. By the end of July 1st in St. Louis, Missouri, I had downloaded and listened to a (fairly decent) fan’s recording of the entire concert. The fan had dutifully recorded the entire concert, and uploaded it for the world to share (not sell) within hours of the show ending.

I followed the concert on Twitter in real time, tracking the setlist, with multiple users tweeting the name of each song as the first notes were played.

Youtube has over 1300 clips of the concert. You could basically watch the entire concert in order, with an assist from your Twitter setlist.

Flickr has a similar number of fan’s photos.

You could follow @neilmccormick on Twitter for some behind the scenes flavor. Neil is an author and friend of the band, and tweeted some interesting tidbits like this one: “Apparently Bono couldn’t turn off LED lazer jacket after show & travelled to hotel sending beams of red light from his car”.

Neil also wrote a great review on his blog at the Telegraph UK.
