Friends, how many articles and blog posts have you read about personal organization? From personal productivity systems like Getting Things Done down to to-do list web-apps like Remember the Milk. Is it in the thousands? It might be that high for me, and it has led me to do a lot of thinking of late because I was starting to realize that I was spending more time in search of the perfect work-flow system than actually doing work. And thus, the whole purpose was defeated. I won’t bore you with the whole story of my productivity journey to this point, but suffice it to say that I had tried many, many different variations of staying on top of things, with varying degrees of success, but I was never really sold completely on any one of them, and I was using about 4 of them.
Flash forward to this past weekend, when perusing my twitter stream I came across a tweet about ReQall, which bills itself as the best way to remember what’s important to you. It’s in free beta as of now, so I thought I would give it a try, and you should too. What I was skeptical of at first, but now appreciate, (after only 3 days) is the simplicity of it. It is easy to use, easy to look at, and most of all, easy to integrate into your life. It may not have the bells and whistles you think are important to you, like the ability to create your own categories for your tasks (work, home, etc.), but I am loving life with fewer options. I found all those extras just gave me places to hide my tasks, forgetting them until it was too late. I will grant you that is more a failure on my part than that of the software I was using, but ReQall’s simple interface is a breath of fresh air for me.
The area ReQall really shines for me, beyond the simplicity, is it’s comprehensive, seamless ability to connect itself into your life. It can replace three other apps I am using right now at least, and that is right off the top of my head, and after only using it a short while, there may actually be more. It’s a virtual personal organizer, allowing you to store notes, to do lists, shopping lists, and photos. The thing that sets ReQall apart though, is that it works from your web browser, or your phone, and it can handle instant messages and news feeds. Whats more, there is a nifty Firefox extension and it can recognize your voice, allowing you to call in things you want to remember, a la Jott.
So far, I can replace Jott, Evernote and Remember the Milk. And it’s not like I don’t like those programs, because I do, and they are all very good in their own right. But ReQall is so smooth there is just no comparison. Give it a try and see if you don’t agree: ReQall
