How is that for a question? Does it even make sense? Probably not without some explanation. Twitter, as you know, probably even whether you use it or not, is everywhere these days. And almost as rampant as the service itself are the new breed of marketing ‘gurus’ that are going to try and tell you that the service is the key to growing your business and you are a complete fool if you are not exploiting it daily. If you are a Twitter user, you know who I am talking about: the people tempting you with offers that sound something like this: “I will show you how to get 20,000 new followers in 5 minutes”.
Should you be trying to do business on Twitter? Yes, to some extent to be determined by you, but not in the manner I just described. These gurus are basically trying to sell you followers and they may be able to deliver them, but if they do, they are not going to be worth what you paid for them. You will have junk accounts or people that did not really opt in to be hammered with your sales message and as such are not listening to it, if they don’t “unfollow” you altogether.
My point here is, that the real value of Twitter, and any social networking tool like it for that matter, is in the networking part. Get out in the world and let people get to know you, and get to know them. I mean real people, too, not text and little pictures. Find some local groups and go out and get involved. In Twitter circles, these have come to be known as Tweet-ups, and that is where the title of this post comes from. You should let other people see that you are a real person, and make some new real contacts. After you have developed a network, hopefully those in it will think of you when they need what you offer, or they will recommend you when they hear of someone else in their network that does. And I don’t think I have to tell you the value of getting into as many networks as you possibly can.
So go out there and get involved! If you are in St. Louis, I just started a calendar of local technology and social networking events. Find one to attend soon.

If anyone knows me at all, they know I'm down with tweet-ups. I've organized a few, been at more, and looking forward to many in my future. These social networking gatherings are much like ones for other groups, but I'd wager the diversity in attendance is much wider.
I'll try to make sure you're in on anything I plan.
