So, It’s the First Day of School…

08/13/2008

Today I arrange to go into work late because one of my daughters is starting kindegarten and its kind of a big deal. It is certainly a big deal to her, as she has been waiting a year for this day. She’s been wearing her backpack for a week. She went to the bus stop an hour early. We took pictures, the whole nine yards.

And of course, the bus never shows. Unbelievable. Or is is inexcusable? Or both? Finally, nearly a half hour after the appointed time for the bus to show, my wife piles all the kids she can fit safely into our van and drives them to the school herself. So, all the excitement of the first day turns to stress as the scramble to get to school late began. Thank you bus driver.

Of course, as soon as the last of the parents drove off with their kids, I was standing at the stop, waiting to cross the street, and the bus shows up. Forty minutes late, the driver looking more at the map than the road. I would guess she is still driving around somewhere, trying to find the school. I am sure that the drivers don’t make as much as they should, and they probably are not paid to drive the route ahead of time, but please, driver, please be on time tomorrow.

That is all.

yeah I it was…I would think they would practice the route too, but who knows…I can’t decide whether to chalk it up or complain about it. As uptight as most parents are, I am sure they got an earful already, lawsuits threatened, etc.
