Quick Story:
Yesterday when I dropped my five year old off at pre-school, her teacher pulled me over and said she wanted to talk to me for a second. That is rarely good. This time it was. She went on for five minutes about how well Four had scored on her assesments. That she was at the top of the top end on everything, and rarely are kids on the top end of everything, maybe a couple areas, but Four was overachieving across the board.
I went from bracing for a reprimand to beaming dad mode pretty quickly. I got home and told Mrs. Chaos that we finally, after 4 tries, had a gifted child on our hands! Four was our ticket to a higher tax bracket. And on and on and on. She was proud, but tempered my enthusiasm. She reminded me of my own theory which states that everyone thinks their kid is gifted at a young age, and it’s not until you send them off to the mean streets of elementary school that you realize how regular they really are. (And there is nothing wrong with that, there are very few Type-A’s in the first grade.)
So over coffee this morning, the Mrs. and I were discussing this wonderful development again as I was getting ready to go to work, when suddenly Four came bounding downstairs screaming and dancing interpretively about how she was excited that she did not have to go to school today. When I asked why, she said because she never goes to school on Wednesdays, in a tone that inferred I was an idiot for not knowing that.
So much for the gifted program.
Happy Friday everyone!

Funny!
She is a smart girl, though. Must be something in the water around here, because Evie is a genius too.
