Threats against the president’s life are up almost 400% since Obama took office, with the new president said to receive 30 new death threats every day according to a new tell-all book by former Secret Service agent Ronald Kessler called In The President’s Secret Service.
George Bush, by comparison, according to Kessler, was only receiving about 8 a day. Kessler goes on to assert that this is taxing an already strapped Secret Service, leading to ever more lax security measures at a time when the job facing the Secret Service is more demanding than ever before.
Predictably, the Secret Service denies all of this, and mere law-abiding mortals will probably never be able to find out for sure where the truth lies.
The sad part is, Kessler’s story does not sound all that implausible to me. This country is full of misguided nuts. Whether you like the man occupying it or not, there should be some respect for the office of the President of the United States.
