According to the folks at the New Oxford American Dictionary, who sure sound like the folks who should be nominating words of the year, this year’s word of the year is:
unfriend – verb – To remove someone as a ‘friend’ on a social networking site such as Facebook.
Did you guess that? Maybe a better question would have been: Have you ever actually said it out loud? I guess that is not a Word of The Year requirement.
